Why is it so difficult to get foreign currency in the UK?
I once went into an RBS bank in a large town in Cambridgeshire.
I said, ‘I want to change Swiss francs.’
The cashier said, ‘We don’t have any Swiss francs.’
Me: ‘Do you have British pounds?’
Cashier, annoyed: ‘Yes!’
Me: ‘Well, I have Swiss francs.’
Cashier: ‘Oh, right. OK.’
In times of raging inflation, it would pay to convert one’s own rapidly devaluing currency to a more healthy currency now rather than in twelve months’ time. I don’t like to pick on any particular country, but there are countries in the world which see the value of their currency ebbing away and it would make sense to buy forward.
I understand that high street banks only carry small amounts of foreign currency and that it you want to make a serious purchase you have to order in advance. I remember doing so once and arranging to pick up my currency on the day before our departure. Unfortunately there was an armed robbery at the bank that morning and they closed the branch down to sort it out. I can’t remember how we coped, but we mut have done so somehow.

Can you recommend me a card I can get in the Uk, that allows for foreign currency free withdrawals or restricted access…
Brazil has Reias but a lot of places seem to only accept US Dollars.
Also, I’ll be a few days in Argentina, so yet another currency :S
Thanks,
At the airport you can buy a Visa Travellers Check card from the Currency Exchange place.
Or get a Thomas Cook one?
It works like a VISA Electron

if i withdrawal money from a uk bank account, so in a foreign country is the rate im looking at the rate which the bank is selling to me, and i would want this to be low to get the best rate,?
also in this case whats the best deal, dealing with cash or depositing a cheque
The bid is the Sell and the ask is buy.
For example, you are selling pounds and buying US dollars.
Hi everyone,
I’m a foreign exchange student in a UK university and i would like the help of some native english speaker,
for one of my marketing class i’ve received a mail from my teacher asking us to make sure to read some docs he send us and saying that "I will be going over the assignments"
i am not quite sure to understand what "I will be going over the assignments" means, first because i had never seen the expression "go over", and second because there is two way i can translate "assignements",
i think it may mean wether that the teacher will collect and check the homework he gave us (go over=check, examine, inspect; assignment = homework) or wether it means he will discuss and give us details about the assignements we will have to do later (go over=details; assignment= final exam)
what do you think ? if english is your mother tongue, how would you interprete that ?
thanks in advance,
Your right, it could be interpreted as both, but I believe he means that he will give you more details about an assignment in the future related to the documents. Either way, just read over what he sent.
