  • Can you get Foreign Currency directly from British Banks?

Posted by admin on August 26th, 2010 and filed under uk foreign currencies | 3 Comments »

Does anyone know if you can get foreign currency (US Dollars) directly from a bank branch in the UK? i.e: Can I go up and ask for US dollars, and have they withdraw it directly from my account?

Yes, you can do this at pretty much any bank these days.

In some places (some Post Offices for example), they even have ATMs stocked with Euros and US Dollars.

How/ where do I find foreign currency rates?

My family and I are going to Europe and The UK for xmas.
My sister and I are going to convert our birthday $$ to foreign currency.

How do I find the daily rates for the past few days?
My dad said he will buy the $$ for us through his bank account.
But I want to get the best rate.

    Thanks

Remember things are more expensive in Europe and the UK.

Is it possibly to convert my bank account to hold a foreign currency, but can still withdraw local currency ?

Posted by admin on August 1st, 2010 and filed under uk foreign currencies | 1 Comment »

My original UK bank account is in GBP, but right now Im working in another country. I opened a bank account here in the local currency, however I was wondering if its possible for me to change my foreign bank account into GBP, but can still however use the ATM machine to withdraw local currency ?

I really appreciate the help !

You can have your wages paid into the UK account … the Bank will use it’s own exchange rate to do the conversion when the funds are submitted.

ATM’s will (of course :-) ) only dispense local currency (not totally true - some South American ATM’s offer a choice of the local currency or US Dollars).

If you draw against a UK Bank, they will use the conversion rate applicable when the money is withdrawn PLUS, even if you use a Debit Card, most will impose either a ‘handling charge’ or a percentage fee (2.5% is common).

If you use a Debit Card drawn on a local bank account, typically there is no fee.

Exchange rate of foreign currencies ?

I have little confusion about Currency Exchange !
Suppose I’m living in UAE I have 100 USD(united states dollar), I want to purchase UK sterling against these 100 USD. Which Rate Will they offer ???
    1. A general rate which prevails between these 2 countries at that time
    2. First they will convert those dollars to AED (arab emirates dirhams) and then to sterling .
    3. Or anything else.
Simply speaking Which rate is offered to customer for 2 foreign currencies in any country ?
    Please let me Know.
    Regards..

USD is directly converted to GBP (sterlings). In general, all minor currencies are converted to USD first, before converting to other currencies. Major currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY etc.) convert directly from each other, but the spread between the two currencies other than the US dollar is, in most cases, still the spreads between these currencies with USD added together.

In the retail foreign exchange market, currency dealers generally add a very big markup (from a few pips to hundreds of pips) to the interbank market spread.

Are there any banks in the UK where I can pay my wages in a foreign currency? (Zloty)?

Posted by admin on July 11th, 2010 and filed under uk foreign currencies | 2 Comments »

I have looked around as best I can, but have had no luck. Perhaps someone here is looking for the same, or has one?

The bank would wllingly take the currency and convert it to Sterling at that day’s exchange rate.

where is the best place to change uk sterling cash to foreign currency?. a bank or at the airport ?.?
